TO: All members of the bargaining unit of AFT Local 1839
RE: Notice of Nominations and Upcoming Election
In accordance with US Department of Labor guidelines and AFT Local 1839 Constitution and By-Laws, the Elections Committee provides this notification to all members of the bargaining unit about the 2012 elections of union officers. This notice of election is being mailed to the last known home address of each member of the bargaining unit of AFT 1839 who has been a dues-paying member in the 2011-2012 academic year.
Nominations must be received by March 20, 2012 at 5pm. Nomination forms should be submitted to any member of the Elections Committee or his/her designated representative.
In accordance with the local Constitution, (April 2010) these offices will be filled:
- President
- Executive Vice President
- Vice President, Professional Staff and Librarians
- Vice President, A. Harry Moore
- Vice President, Adjunct Faculty
- 5th Vice President, Full-time and Part-time Faculty
- Recording Secretary
- Corresponding Secretary
- Treasurer j. Chair of the Grievance Committee
- Chair of the Charitable Contributions and Scholarship Committee
- Delegates and Alternates-AFT National Convention
- Union Representatives and Two Alternates
- Delegates and Alternates-CNJSCL
- Delegates and One Alternate-Hudson County Labor Council
The term of all offices is two years.
Election schedule:
January 31 - Election announcement and call for nominations
March 20, 5pm - Nominations due
March 19, 5pm - Deadline for receipt of dues for Spring 2012
March 30, 5pm - Election statements due
April 16 - Ballots mailed to all members in good standing
April 30 - Ballots must be postmarked by this date
May 7 - Ballots must be received and are counted
May 8 - Election results announced
Balloting will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association.
Who may vote and hold office:
For the purposes of voting and holding office, members are in good standing if either criterion is met:
- Currently a full dues paying member (not agency member) and not 60 days in arrears. Dues paying membership requires signature of an Authorization to Withhold Union Dues card. If your current payroll receipt shows "AFT Member" under "After Tax Deductions" you satisfy this criterion.
- Adjunct faculty and part time members who worked in Fall 2011 and are not currently employed by NJCU must pay union dues for the Spring 2012 semester in order to vote or hold office and/or run for office. You must send or hand deliver a check for $32.40 (dues calculated on a basis of teaching 3 credits for the Spring semester) to the Union Office no later than March 19.
